Tucked away at the foot of the cliffs on Kingsdown beach, Bosun Cottage is a super-stylish hideaway offering unparalleled tranquillity against the most dramatic of coastal settings with uninterrupted views of the sea.

This is English coast and country living at its very best. Just five minutes outside the lively fishing town of Deal, take the coastal road towards pretty Kingsdown village. The chalky white cliffs mark the serenity that lies ahead. Turn off at the pebble path leading to the sea, and there Bosun cottage sits within a clutch of fisherman’s cottages on a secluded part of the ...
beach

On arrival, take a seat amidst the swathes of fennel fronds quietly beholding the spectacle before you: rose pink dawns; smouldering sunsets and starlit nights all from your front door.

There are breath-taking walks aplenty: take the Kingsdown coastal path across to St Margaret’s Bay (look out for Fleming’s 007 bus), towards the lighthouse and White Cliffs for a spot of nostalgia. For those preferring inland walks the area is abound with woodland and rolling hills where you’ll take a picnic before returning to your cottage for a well-earned glass of sparkling Chapel Down or pint of Shepherd Neame. Alternatively, take the path west for a short stroll and find yourself a secluded spot amidst the pretty beach huts outside The Zetland Arms pub built, quite literally, on the beach.

Interior
As you step off the beach and into Bosun, succumb to the laidback slouchy two-seater sofa and two matching armchairs; soft pebble linen is stylishly offset by the nautical stripes of lambswool throws and plump feather cushions. For rainier days the toasty wood burner awaits while the mounted Bramwell Brown weather clock staunchly lends a welcome degree of predictability for the days and nights ahead.

The quirky Dutch half door is perfect for ushering in the salty sea breezes through to the dining room on balmy nights.

Take your lunches and dinners in the cosy recess of the dining room where the lamp on the console table offers a soft light against its voluminous washed charcoal stand. Alternatively, for summer days and nights, treat yourself to al fresco dining on the terrace. There’s definitely something very Mediterranean about the setting, especially on a clear star-studded night. And in the true spirit of ‘mea casa..’ there is even an honesty bar with a selection of fine wines to help yourself to (all we ask is that you spread the love by replacing what you drink with some of your own fav’s and so introduce others to new wineries and blends!)

The kitchen is stylish and practical with a gas hob and stove, microwave and dishwasher. There’s also ample storage for beach towels, boogie boards and the like in the adjacent utility room. From the kitchen you can access to the courtyard and garden where a bright hammock offers welcome seclusion and respite from the sea and sun.

At the end of the corridor running length of the ground floor lies the bathroom with artistic stone-effect walls and bath and shower. A china basin sits atop a timber countertop, again, everything seamlessly in keeping with the signature style of the cottage.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms and small washroom.

The luxurious king-size bed in the master bedroom offers uninterrupted views across the beach with the cliffs on one side and, across the water, France on the other.

Again, it’s the attention to detail and subtle touches that create an unforgettable ambience: touches of blue in the stripped pine fireplace are picked out by the signature marine cushions. The contrast between the gloss and matte textures of the Corinium bed lamps are stylish and quietly impressive. The Ottoman at the foot of the bed lends an extra touch of luxury while the wool rug, soft underfoot, further complements the overwhelming feeling of laid-back comfort.

The second bedroom looks out onto the quiet of the back garden and is ingenious in its versatility: the three-in-one oak grain bed accommodates a relative, two children or a couple as you choose one single, two singles or a super-king-sized arrangement.

A perfect getaway for those seeking style, functionality and comfort amidst the most dramatic of settings.

  • Parking

The spaces on South Road (that run parallel with the houses) are for residents of the cottages. The spaces are unallocated and there is one per cottage. Generally we use the space opposite the front door, immediately to the right of the post as viewed from the front door. You’ll need to take the chain off the hook to access, but please do re-connect the chain once you are parked, and if you go out, as it helps keep the spaces reserved for our neighbours. If you are arriving in more than one vehicle, or have guests to the cottage during your stay, please note that you will need to find alternative parking for a second/further vehicles.
