Central House

Central House is a rather special Grade II listed building – the perfect retreat for lovers of history and aesthetes.

If you’re looking to step back in time a hundred years or so, then Central House might just be the ticket for you. The doors are original, the sash windows too and some of the walls a little wonky – perfectly imperfect. A ‘hotel experience’ Central House is not, but what it is, is a truly enchanting artist's home on the beach – perfect for those looking to escape from it all.

There are two open fires, which really do bring the whole place to life and the view from the lounge is truly breath-taking – there’s a real sense of being on a ship when you sit down as your eye is just at sea level.

There are two bathrooms (one on first floor and one on top floor) each with bath, loo and basin. There is also a shower downstairs on the ground floor (please see photos).

The bedrooms are uncluttered and spacious – the two doubles both have sea views (please see photos) and the twin bedroom is situated at the back of the house on the first floor with a view out onto the garden and higgledy-piggledy Georgian rooftops which get the evening sunshine.

Please note that the ceilings in the two upstairs double bedrooms are quite low, which is typical of homes from this period if you are familiar with English historic homes. The stairs leading to these rooms and the top bathroom have deeper treads and a supporting wall rather than an additional handrail, so they may not be suitable for anyone with mobility concerns.

Ground floor:

  • Huge dining room with seating for 8 and open fire
  • Kitchen
  • Downstairs bedroom with French doors out onto garden
  • Hallway leading to:
  • Shower room

First floor:

  • Huge lounge with sea views and floor-to-ceiling windows and window seats
  • Twin bedroom with 2 single beds. (Please note, the twin bedroom has wall lamps only and there is no overhead light, which we feel adds to the charm and character of the house, but realise may not suit everybody.)
  • Bathroom with bath, basin and WC (no shower, though there is a shower on the ground floor)

Second floor:

  • Double bedroom with sea view

We have stayed here many times before and just love the huge lounge and dinning room. The location is brilliant with a view to die for. Booking process was very efficient and we were kept informed along the way. A quirky residence that ticks lots of boxes

This is a gorgeous little cottage in an idyllic location right on the beach. The view of the sea from the main bedroom window is amazing to wake up to. It makes getting out of bed very difficult. We left the top of the stable door open when we were home letting in the breeze and all the sounds of the sea, holidaymakers on the beach and seagulls in. The whole atmosphere had a lovely Enid Blyton vibe of long adventurous, hot sunny days at the seaside, calling the family in off the beach for their evening meal. It was the most perfect holiday. The cottage also has a log burner so I imagine it would be very cosy in colder seasons too.

The house was at a great location, right near the seafront and High Street. It was fabulously decorated with great attention to detail. The only slight drawback was that you couldn't park outside all day but there was plenty of parking on the surrounding streets.

Had an absolutely amazing stay for friends birthdays, the house was perfect in every. Immaculately clean, great central location for Deal town and the beach. Lots of top tips given at the house of where to visit, restaurants, bars etc and added bonus of a beautiful little garden. Thank you, would definitely return.

We had a ladies two night getaway and had a lovely time. Central House is a little quirky but in a nice way. The view of the sea from the 1st floor living room is fantastic and, surprisingly, the location is very quiet. Lovely big kitchen with all you need for preparing meals Lots of restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. But, best of all, being able to run across the road to swim whatever the state of the tide. Wonderful!
