lovely place to spend time together. Slow breakfasts that turn into late mornings, lunches that drift on, and evenings shaped around sunsets rather than plans. On calm days, you’ll find yourself opening the windows and doors, letting the air flow through the house. When storms roll in, it’s just as good. Fire on, kettle boiling, watching the sky change without needing to go anywhere.
There are two king bedrooms a bunk room, as well as an additional sofa-bed, making The Bach ideal for families, couples or a small group of friends, sleeping up to 8. One of the king bedrooms has an eco biofuel fire, adding a cosy, comforting feel during the cooler hunker-down months and making autumn and winter stays just as appealing as summer ones. The house has a modern ensuite, plus a main bathroom with a deep plunge bath, so mornings are easy and everyone has their space. There’s also an outdoor shower, perfect for returning from the beach on summer days. The house sleeps six comfortably, with the option of eight using the single/double day bed in the shared space.
Outside, there’s parking for two cars, and one small, well-behaved dog is very welcome, so no one gets left behind.
One of the real pleasures of staying at The Bach is how much you can do straight from the door. Kingsdown beach is close by for early morning swims and bracing dips, with long shoreline and clifftop walks to explore, leading to Deal in one direction and Dover in the other. National Trust woodland walks in Kingsdown Wood begin at the end of the road, ideal for quiet wanders with the dog or longer walks that leave you pleasantly tired. If you enjoy mixing coastal breaks with a bit of history, Walmer Castle and Dover Castle are both nearby, perfect for relaxed, interesting days out followed by evenings back at the house. Kingsdown village also has three pubs, including the famed Zetland Arms, positioned on the beach with direct sea views, great food and a leisurely 20-minute walk away.
The name is a quiet nod to the New Zealand idea of a “bach”, a place made for simple, relaxed holidays by the coast. A house for uncomplicated stays. Days spent outside, long walks, beach swims and unhurried time together.
